Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith, an American. At the time, he was teaching at the YMCA International Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. Due to the local abundance of peaches, children here also like to play the game of throwing a ball into the peach basket. This inspired him to draw on the characteristics of other ball games such as football and hockey and create basketball games.

At first, basketball games were relatively simple, with no limits on the size of the court and the number of participants. The players of the game are divided into two equal teams, respectively standing at the two ends of the court, after the referee throws the ball to the center of the court, the players of both sides immediately rush into the field to grab the ball, and strive to throw the ball into the opposing team's basket. Because the peach basket has a bottom, the ball stays in the basket after being thrown, and people must climb a specially designed ladder to take the ball out of the basket.

With the continuous improvement of the field facilities, the bottom of the basket was cancelled, and iron rings were used to replace the peach basket, boards were made of backboards instead of wire nets, the field was added to the center line, the center circle and the free throw line, and the game was changed to the midfield jump ball. At the same time, the players on the field are usually changed to 5 people per team, and there are points such as guards, guards, centers, forwards, and left-behind positions. In addition, Naismith formulated an imperfect competition rules, a total of 13 clauses, which stipulated that no running with the ball, holding, pushing, tripping, hitting, etc. This greatly improved the fun of basketball games, and attracted more people to participate in the game, so that basketball soon spread to the whole United States.

In 1892, basketball was first introduced to Mexico from the United States and soon spread throughout Mexico. In this way, Mexico became the first country outside the United States to play basketball. Since then, the sport has been introduced into France, Britain, China, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Australia, Lebanon and other countries, and has been carried out, popularized and developed in the world.
